There are of course many different types and uses for a wall mounted lamp. If you are looking for a wall mounted lamp to display art for example, you could be in for a lot of work if you want to hang them in your home or store since this style of wall mounted lamp may need to be hard wired. If this is the case then you will need to run wire to it. On the other hand, if you can find one, it may be possible to find a wall mounted lamp used for displaying art that runs on batteries. However, this type of wall mounted lamp will most likely use diodes to light the art which will be less bright.
The best type of wall mounted lamp for the purpose of displaying art will be a light that can hard wired and therefore will also be a brighter light. However it is important to consider that you not get a bulb that will also give off a lot of heat as you do not want to do damage to the painting the light is highlighting.

Down lighting is very common. Some fixtures are recessed in the ceiling casting light downward. This type of lighting tends to be a common method, used in offices and homes. It is easy to design but has dramatic problems with glare and can use more energy due to large number of fittings necessary to light a room this way.
Up-lighting, like a wall mounted lamp is less common and used to bounce light off the ceiling to create light in a room. Wall mounted lamps however can create a beautiful look and feel in a room. It is commonly used when minimal glare and uniform illumination levels are required. While indirect lighting can create a diffused and shadow free light effect it is sometimes regarded as an uneconomical lighting method . Up-lighting (indirect) uses a diffuse surface to reflect light in a space and can minimize glare on computer displays and other dark glossy surfaces. It gives a more uniform presentation of the light output.
Indirect lighting, however is completely reliant upon the reflectance value of the surface so a wall mounted lamp in a room with a very high ceilings may cause the room to be darker than it would if the wall mounted lamp had been used in a room with lower ceilings. .

Choosing the right kind of wall mounted lamp may be easier said than done. There are so many styles from wall mounted sconces to wall mounted mirror lamps and even wall mounted art lamps. These different lamps come in so many different styles it can become confusing.
Are you looking for a wall mount lamp that you can use for reading? If so, you may want to consider purchasing a lamp that can swing away from the wall to give you light in an easy chair a few feet away.
Are you looking for a wall mounted lamp to put in the bathroom? You need to consider brightness, colors, four bulb or five bulb styles as well as how far away from the wall your wall mounted bathroom lamp will be. If your wall mount mirror lamp is too close to the wall, you will need a lower wattage bulb to keep the heat to a minimum.
