Wall Mounted Lamp – Lighting Options
Down lighting is very common. Some fixtures are recessed in the ceiling casting light downward. This type of lighting tends to be a common method, used in offices and homes. It is easy to design but has dramatic problems with glare and can use more energy due to large number of fittings necessary to light a room this way.
Up-lighting, like a wall mounted lamp is less common and used to bounce light off the ceiling to create light in a room. Wall mounted lamps however can create a beautiful look and feel in a room. It is commonly used when minimal glare and uniform illumination levels are required. While indirect lighting can create a diffused and shadow free light effect it is sometimes regarded as an uneconomical lighting method . Up-lighting (indirect) uses a diffuse surface to reflect light in a space and can minimize glare on computer displays and other dark glossy surfaces. It gives a more uniform presentation of the light output.
Indirect lighting, however is completely reliant upon the reflectance value of the surface so a wall mounted lamp in a room with a very high ceilings may cause the room to be darker than it would if the wall mounted lamp had been used in a room with lower ceilings. .
